Ceremony
How long does the December ceremony take?
The ceremony takes about 1.5 to 2 hours.
What happens if there is a heavy snow storm?
A decision to proceed or cancel the ceremony will be made on Saturday
at noon and announced shortly thereafter. The event will not be
rescheduled, but the December graduates would be invited to attend
the following May ceremonies. If there is inclement weather and
the ceremony is not cancelled, then please use discretion in traveling
to the event.
Accommodations for people with disabilities
Hearing Impairment
Does the University provide special seating for the hearing
impaired?
Yes. The University provides special seating and a sign language interpreter
for the hearing impaired. There is also an assistive listening system.
Mobility / Visual Problems
Does the University provide special seating for guests with
mobility and/or visual problems - i.e. people with canes or
those with difficulty climbing stairs?
Yes. Special seating will be available for those with mobility and/or visual
problems. This is available on first come first serve basis. The ushers will assist
with this seating.
Parking
Does the University provide special parking for people with
handicapped decals?
Yes. This parking, for those with official decals issued by a state
Department of Motor Vehicles, is located on the first level of South
Garage and behind the Gampel Pavilion and the Field House. These
parking spaces are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Wheelchairs
Does the University provide wheelchairs for guests at the
Gampel Pavilion?
No. The University does not provide wheelchairs for guests.
Does the University provide special seating at the ceremonies
for people with wheelchairs?
Yes. The University sets aside an area on the main concourse of the Gampel Pavilion
for those in wheelchairs. This is available on first come first served basis. The
ushers will assist with this seating upon entry to Gampel Pavilion.
Can all guests sit with the person in the wheelchair?
No. Only one person may sit with the person in a wheelchair.
