Instructions for the Faculty & Staff Processional at the Graduate Ceremony

INSTRUCTIONS TO FACULTY & STAFF

Faculty & staff participating in the processional will assemble in the lower level of Gampel Pavilion. Please enter through the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium lobby (near the Husky dog sculpture), decend the stairs to your left, and assemble in the lower passageway of the Pavilion.

Faculty & Staff Processional Begins at 1:45pm
Ceremony Begins at 2:00 pm

Hooding Instructions

If you wish to hood your PhD advisees, please follow these guidelines below to make the process efficient and appropriate to the occasion.

You will be seated behind the platform party in the Gampel Pavilion with your PhD candidate(s) to your right.

As we proceed with the presentation of PhD candidates in alphabetical order, please rise out of your seat and move towards your left and into the West entrance area as you anticipate your student's presentation. A marshal will be there to help the ordering. You are asked to line up in the alphabetical order of your student's name. You will be directed to a hooding position by a marshal as your student approaches, but after s/he has been congratulated by the President.

Your student will be carrying the hood over one arm. Your task, with the help of a marshal if necessary, is to put the hood over the student from behind.

1. Graduands will be carrying hood over left arm.	2. Take hood from graduand.	3. Turn graduand around.	4. Put hood over head of graduand....
5. so that the pointed end is down at the front.....	6. like this.	7. Open the back....	8. to reveal the colors (you won't have time to adjust the cord).

On completion, the student is expected to return to his/her seat.

Please return to your seat immediately afterwards to clear space. It you have more than one student, please retreat back into the West entrance temporarily so that others can make their way forward.

Academic Regalia

I. Mortarboards are worn during the processional and recessional. Men remove mortarboards for the singing of the national anthem.

II. Tassels are placed to the left.

III. Hoods are worn as follows:
• Place hood over head with velvet and colors facing outward.
• Button front cord to blouse or shirt
• Fasten cord across back to keep hood secure.
• Pull colors of hood lining outward from inside center so that they project to the outside and are more prominent.
